Alisha Tolani, MD
Dr. Alisha Tolani is a Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility specialist dedicated to providing compassionate, holistic fertility care. She has a special interest in working with patients with male factor infertility and patients with medical comorbidities. She also sees patients with hormonal conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
Dr. Tolani’s research investigates novel technologies to optimize treatment of male infertility and improve access to fertility care. She is the principal investigator of a randomized controlled trial examining the impact of sperm preparation technologies on intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatment outcomes. She has received research awards from the Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine, American Reproductive Health Professionals, American Society for Reproductive and Medicine, and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society.
Dr. Tolani is committed to helping people from diverse backgrounds and to advocating for policy changes that improve access to fertility care. She serves on the UCSF Obstetrics & Gynecology Advocacy Committee and is one of 12 national American Society of Reproductive Medicine PRIMED Advocacy fellows.
Dr. Tolani completed her medical training and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she served as administrative chief resident and received the Excellence in Patient Care and REI Outstanding Performance awards. She completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco and received a certificate from the UCSF Diversity and Inclusion program. Dr. Tolani is a DONA-trained doula and has previously worked on maternal health both domestically and abroad. Prior to medical school, she served as a Fulbright Scholar in Honduras, where she studied public health initiatives to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality in government hospitals and rural settings.She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
